April is Limb Loss and Limb Difference Awareness Month

According to Wound Care Advantage:

-There are 2.1 million people living with limb loss in the U.S.

-Approximately 185K amputations take place per year in the U.S.

-On average, 507 limbs are lost per day in the U.S.

Winner Regional Wound Care is making a difference in decreasing the percentage of amputations in our area and is setting trends that affect wound care facilities in our state. Most recently, a skin substitute that WRH has seen great success with is being more utilized within the Sanford network because of the positive results they have seen in our local patients. We are excited and grateful to be able to collaborate so closely with a large variety of specialties to improve the quality of life for everyone with wounds.

With the collaboration of Dr. Fitzke and Dr. Nissen, our Wound Care program has had great success in healing wounds without unnecessary amputations .

As of December 2023, Winner Wound Care took the lead in changing State Administrative Rule to include tasks necessary for wound care to be recognized within a Wound Care Certified Nurse’s scope of practice.
