Winner Regional Health is pleased to announce an important update to our surgical team: Dr. Rick Wagner, who has provided general surgery at our facility for many years while maintaining his private practice, has chosen Winner Regional Health as his primary practice location moving forward.
This transition strengthens the already strong relationship between Dr. Wagner and our organization and ensures patients will continue to receive the high-quality, compassionate care they have always trusted.

A Continuation of Trusted Care
Dr. Wagner has been a cornerstone of surgical care in our region for decades. Patients throughout south-central South Dakota know him for his skill, attentiveness, and dedication to their well-being. His long-standing partnership with Winner Regional Health—combined with his years of private practice—has allowed him to support local families with exceptional care close to home.
By making Winner Regional Health his primary practice setting, Dr. Wagner is reaffirming his commitment to the patients and communities he has always served. This transition represents continuity, stability, and an assurance of ongoing full-time surgical care within our facility.
What This Means for Patients
While Dr. Wagner will continue to occasionally provide locum services elsewhere, his work at Winner Regional Health will now represent the central focus of his surgical practice. Patients can expect:
Assurance of continued commitment to the same high-quality care he has always delivered.
Ongoing availability for general surgery services within Winner Regional Health.
Strengthened collaboration with our multidisciplinary care teams.
More streamlined communication and continuity for his local patients.
A Forward-Looking Partnership
Rural healthcare depends on trusted providers who understand the needs of their communities. Dr. Wagner’s decision to center his practice at Winner Regional Health helps us to maintain access to local surgical services and supporting the long-term health of the region.
We are grateful for his ongoing commitment to the patients of south-central South Dakota and look forward to continuing this partnership for years to come.
